Maria Sharapova into 3 Round of the Mutua Madrid Open 2015

After swatting aside Timea Bacsinszky in the first round, Sharapova continued the process of playing herself back into form with an even more comprehensive 6-1, 6-2 victory over Duque-Mariño.
"It's definitely nice to get another win today. It's a little bit of a different opponent and different style of play against someone that I had to be very patient," Sharapova said.
"I knew maybe she wasn't going to hit a crazy amount of winners, but she would stay in the point and make me work for it." Few players have worked harder on their clay court craft in recent times than Sharapova, and her aptitude on the surface was evident from the outset, dragging her Colombian opponent to all corners of the Estadio Manolo Santana.
One such point gave her the first break, as a scrambling Duque-Mariño could only watch as a forehand whistled past her. Just as impressive was her defense, and after pocketing the first set she produced some remarkable scurrying around the baseline to build an early advantage in the second. Despite an ever-increasing amount of slicing and dicing from the other end, Sharapova remained as business-like as ever, breaking once more to close out the match in an hour and 13 minutes.
