Serena Williams wins over Sharapova in US Open 2019

Maria Sharapova hoisted the US Open trophy back in 2006, and despiteaa 6 1, 6 1 defeat to 23 time grand Slam champion Serena Williams the former World No.1 remains optimistic that she has room to grow after a shoulder injury stunted her season.

Williams and Sharapova are located in the bottom quarter of the draw, which is anchored by No.2 seed and reigning Roland Garros champion Ashleigh Barty, who takes on Kazakhstan’s Zarina Diyas in the opening round. 2016 US Open champion and No.14 seed Angelique Kerber could be a potential fourth-round opponent for Barty.
The top quarter of the draw is headed by World No.1 and defending champion Naomi Osaka, who faces off against Anna Blinkova of Russia in the first round. Osaka has won the last two hardcourt majors, going 14-0 between last year’s US Open and the 2019 Australian Open.

The all-black look, featuring "technical lace and eyelet-like perforations, will be Sharapova’s uniform for her night matches." Sharapova said of the dress, "It was always going to be black. It wasn’t even a question of what we were going to do for the night matches." In '06, Sharapova "won the Open in a black dress." Sharapova: "What I really wanted to relive in this dress is the moment of elegance and thinking of Audrey Hepburn and her classic Givenchy dress."

CINCINNATI, OH, USA - Returning to Cincinnati for the first time in five years, Maria Sharapova was a winner on Monday night at the Western & Southern Open.

In a clash of wildcards under the lights, the former World No.1 and five-time Grand Slam champion defeated Alison Riske in the first round of the Western & Southern Open, 6-3, 7-6(4).

 Maria Sharapova will make her reappearance on Tuesday at Mallorca Open after five months out of WTA tour due to an injury. Former World No.1 explained that her shoulder is “feeling well because I have taked time to come back for my first event” and added that her first game is “a challenge because I missed a lot of things”.

“Mallorca Open is a great place to train because it brings me better whather conditions than England to practice”, said Sharapova. Actually WTA No.86 ranked remembered that she was in Mallorca “fifteen years ago” and added that it is “a very nice place to visit driving your car”.
