Osaka communication in Twitter

Osaka out of the RG21. ❤️ Osaka!!

"Hey everyone, this isn't a situation I ever imagined or intended when I posted a few days ago,” she wrote. “I think now the best thing for the tournament, the other players and my well-being is that I withdraw so that everyone can get back to focusing on the tennis going on in Paris. I never wanted to be a distraction and I accept that my timing was not ideal and my message could have been clearer. More importantly, I would never trivialize mental health or use the term lightly
The truth is that I have suffered long bouts of depression since the US Open in 2018 and I have had a really hard time coping with that. Anyone that knows me knows I'm introverted, and anyone that has seen me at the tournaments will notice that I'm often wearing headphones as that helps dull my social anxiety. Though the tennis press has always been kind to me (and I wanna apologize especially to all the cool journalists who I may have hurt), I am not a natural public speaker and get huge waves of anxiety before I speak to the world's media. I get really nervous and find it stressful to always try to engage and give you the best answers I can.

The Czech was nearly sent to pack her bags but the two-time Wimbledon champion evaded match point to edge past qualifier Greet Minnen 6-7(3), 7-6(5), 6-1.

“I was fighting not only with her but with myself as well. I'm glad that in the end I beat myself as well and beat her, so that counts,” said the Roland-Garros 2020 semi-finalist.

Kvitova holds a 2-0 record against the former world No.13 Vesnina.

Vesnina back on the major stage

Elena Vesnina is well and truly back!

The Russian missed 2019 and 2020 on maternity leave after becoming a mother to her first child.

On Sunday, the 34-year-old chalked up her first singles match-win since 2018 with an impressively commanding 6-1, 6-0 passage past Belarusian lucky loser Olga Govortsova.

“It's really a big moment for me. I really felt inspired today on the court. I was not putting any pressure on myself, first of all. I was in a zone that I really wanted to keep that zone,” stated world No.1096 Vesnina, who has twice featured in the singles third round (2015 and 2017) in Paris.

Iga Swiatek in press conference. Roland-Garros 2021

My best memories here haven’t happened yet, but the first time I came here into the stadium as a kid, I came here with a big ball looking for all the players to sign.  My dream was to play the tournament, that’s why it’s always so special to come back."

Lucas Pouille is thrilled to be back at Roland-Garros after missing 2020, and hopes that his best days are in front of him.

"I'm not really thinking about the Grand Slam. This is just another tournament. As always, I just have to show my level and be there, 100 per cent on, and wins will come. This is what I mentally change."

Coco Gauff in press conference. Roland-Garros 2021

"I think it's a compliment, but for me I just focus on being myself because I'm never going to be Serena Williams and Serena will never be me because we are two different people. We have two different brains. I understand why people compare us, but I think it's just important that I want to be known as Coco. I don't want to be known as Serena Williams' heir, or Serena Williams' next thing. I just want to be known as Coco Gauff."

Coco Gauff who proclaimed that she has always dreamt about playing Serena Williams in a final, talks about what it's like being compared to the legend.

“No, honestly it feels like a lifetime ago. I think coming back to the site here at Roland-Garros is obviously pretty special, pretty cool to be able to walk onto Chatrier and have so many memories kind of come flooding back. A lot of it I also don't remember and feels like it was such a long time ago.”

Barbora Strycova has announced her retirement but hopes she still has one more match to play in 2022.

Dear fans...or I should say friends," Strycova wrote. "As you might have heard, I announced my retirement from professional tennis today. It feels weird. Until now, tennis was the only world I knew. I have always had enormous love for this amazing sport. Even though all the pain, tears, renunciation and sweat, all the great moment and victories were worth it!

I never planned to end my career during a pandemic. However, some moments in life just can't be planned and I am super excited for my next life role as a mom. It doesn't mean I will accept that fact that I didn't play my last match in front of an audience.

"Once it's possible, I will play one last match...in front of you. To say a proper goodbye."
