Su-Wei Hsieh outlasted a gutsy effort from 18-year-old American wild card Kelly Chen, 3-6, 6-2, 7-6, on Court 13. Chen, who reached the final of the USTA Girls’ 18s Nationals to earn a spot in qualifying, played aggressive tennis to counter the slice-and-dice approach of her Taiwanese opponent.
