They saved the best for last: a dominant performance helped Hsieh Su-wei and Barbora Strycova captured the Mutua Madrid Open doubles title on Saturday.

The No.5 seeds dropped just four games to defeat No.6 seeds Gabriela Dabrowski and Xu Yi-fan in the championship match, 6-3, 6-1.

Karolina Pliskova needed three tough sets to battle past the tricky Hsieh Su-Wei and take her spot in the Miami Open round of 16.

It was Pliskova’s first time playing the No.61-ranked Hsieh, who wreaked havoc on the Australian Open draw earlier in the season when she knocked out No.3 Garbine Muguruza on her way to a breakthrough round of 16 run.

The No.5 seed recovered emphatically from a mid-match letdown, bouncing back from a one-sided second set to edge through 6-4, 1-6, 7-6(4) after almost two and a half hours on court.

Barbora Strycova and Hsieh su- wei conquer's of the women's doubles in bnp Paribas open 2018

INDIAN WELLS, CA, USA
Hsieh Su-Wei continued her impressive start to 2018, this time in doubles alongside Barbora Strycova to upset top seeds and Olympic gold medalists Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina, 6-4, 6-4 to win the BNP Paribas Open.

The duo overcame blustery conditions to flummox the big-hitting Russians with spins, slices, and forays to the net, recovering from a break down in the second set to clinch victory in 83 minutes on Stadium 1.

"It was tough, because it was first time for us to play on center court, and it was very tricky conditions," Strycova said. "So you have to focus much more on your service game to put first serves in a lot, like, more percentage than normal.

Top seeds reigned supreme on Day 1 of qualifying, although some victories didn’t come without a battle and a fright.

While the No. 1 seed in the men’s draw, Leonardo Mayer, advance to the second round in straight sets over Maxime Janvier, the top seed in the women’s draw came within a few points of crashing out.

Su-Wei Hsieh outlasted a gutsy effort from 18-year-old American wild card Kelly Chen, 3-6, 6-2, 7-6, on Court 13. Chen, who reached the final of the USTA Girls’ 18s Nationals to earn a spot in qualifying, played aggressive tennis to counter the slice-and-dice approach of her Taiwanese opponent. After splitting the opening two sets, Hsieh raced out to a 4-0 advantage in the third. But Chen broke Hsieh twice when she was serving for the match at 5-4 and again at 6-

Johanna Konta made another early exit at the French Open on Tuesday, losing 1-6, 7-6, 6-4 against world No.109 Su-Wei Hsieh.

The seventh seed, who remains without a main draw win from her three visits to Paris, wasted little time in sweeping to the opening set, winning in just 23 minutes for the loss of just 10 points against Hsieh, of Chinese Taipei.
