Karolina Pliskova made an emphatic return the very tournament where she began her rise to WTA World No.1, easing past Russian talent Natalia Vikhlyantseva, 6-2, 6-3, to kick off her title defense at the Western & Southern Open.
"I felt okay," Pliskova said after the match. "I obviously didn't know my opponent, so I don't think it was the best match. As always, first rounds are not the best. I think she played really strange, some good points and then a lot of mistakes.
