Serena Williams wants to play and be competitive at the Australian Open following the birth of her first child.

Serena Williams will only return to professional tennis if she feels capable of matching her pre-pregnancy level of play.

The American, winner of 23 Grand Slams, is currently out of the game, expecting a baby with fiancé Alexis Ohanian in under a month.

"In this game you can go dark fast,"she told vogue. "If I lose, and I lose again, it’s like, she’s done. Especially since I’m not 20 years old. I’ll tell you this much: I won’t win less. Either I win, or I don’t play.”
