María Sharapova continued her dominating performance through the early rounds of the australian open, taking out unseeded aliakSandra sasnovich, 6-2, 6-1.
Sharapova lost a grueling seventh game when serving from the opening set, but Sasnovich could not consolidate the break, and won just won more game in the 71 minute match.
"It's great to be back on this court after a great run last year," said Sharapova in her on-court interview; the Russian began her 2016 australian open campaign on Margaret Court Arena, but had not been back on Melbourne's center court since reaching the final last year.
"I had an opponent that I had never played before today; that's always tricky, but I'm happy that I got through."
