Daria Gavrilova received high praise from a venerable Aussie on Tuesday night.
“I saw Dasha had a good win (in the first round),” Lleyton Hewitt said.
“I like the way she goes about it. I saw her in the gym a lot in the pre-season. She works extremely hard. I think she's got a lot of good things ahead of her.”
Hewitt no doubt would have been impressed by what Gavrilova produced just 24 hours later.
The 21-year-old Aussie took one of the biggest scalps of her career on Wednesday night, upsetting No.6 seed and two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova in a stellar performance at Margaret Court Arena in which her intensity, fight, energy, court coverage and positivity – all hallmarks of Hewitt’s distinguished career – were too potent a combination for the Czech champion.
