Martina Hingis and Flavia Pennetta kept their hopes of going to Singapore alive with a dominant first round win at the Tianjin Open 2014

The No.1-seeded Hingis and Pennetta needed to reach the quarterfinals at the International-level event to keep themselves in the running for the WTA's crown jewel event, and they did it in extreme fashion, needing just 42 minutes to cruise past Magda Linette and Zhang Ling in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2.

"We felt very comfortable. 6-0, 6-2 - it was a good match and a good start to the tournament," Hingis said. "It's been a good stay in Tianjin so far and hopefully we'll have another good night tonight." The Swiss-Italian partnership is one of two teams vying for the last spot in the eight-team doubles field at the WTA Finals.
The other team in contention - Alla Kudryavtseva and Anastasia Rodionova - are actually the No.2 seeds at the Tianjin Open, and made it through to the quarterfinals on Monday. Hingis and Pennetta were asked just how much Singapore is on their minds this week.
