IVANOVIC ADVANCES IN BNP PARIBAS OPEN 2014 |
Top seed Li Na swept part her fellow Chinese trailblazer Zheng Jie 6-1, 7-5 in one hour and 34 minutes on Saturday for a place in BNP Paribas Open third round. Li Na is attempting to capture her 10th WTA singles title, having already lifted trophies this year at Shenzhen (d. Peng) and the Australian Open (d. Cibulkova).
The pair also played the first all-China WTA final at Estoril in 2006.

Zheng was the first Chinese player to crack the Top 15 in 2009 and also the first to reach a Grand Slam singles semi-final at 2008 Wimbledon. She drops to 5-15 against Top 5 opponents. Karolina Pliskova will next meet the World No. 2 after she struck five aces past No. 28 seed Klara Zakopalova in a 7-5, 6-2 victory.
