Agnieszka Radwanska advanced to the BNP Paribas Open final for the first time on Friday night. The second-seeded Pole defeated sixth seed Simona Halep of Romania 6-3, 6-4 in 83 minutes on Stadium 1, at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden. “What I was trying to do was play aggressively from the beginning of the match and just try to go for my shots,” said Radwanska. “I was lucky. I think I was serving better than other days, so that helped today as well. I think it was a pretty good match.”
Radwanska has won two previous WTA Premier Mandatory titles at 2011 Beijing and 2012 Miami. She will be attempting to lift her 14th WTA trophy overall in the title match (13-5 record in finals). Radwanska had one point for a 5-0 lead in the first set, but Halep earned a confidence break that she consolidated. Radwanska closed out the opener with her second ace.
Halep grew in confidence in the early stages of the second set, courtesy of a second break in a 10-point fourth game. However, Radwanska bounced back to win four straight games and improved her career record against Top 10 opponents to 38-61.
