Williams' progress has slipped under the radar somewhat, and she continued her fine form by swatting aside World No.10 Suárez Navarro, 6-3, 6-4.
The pivotal moment in the first set came in the fifth game, when a succession of thumping forehand winners helped Williams come from 15-40 down to break.
With her serve now purring, the American had few problems closing out the set and quickly moved 3-1 ahead in the second. When the two met earlier this year in Miami, Suárez Navarro overcame a disastrous start to win in three sets, but Williams ensured there was no danger of history repeating itself, coolly serving her way into the quarterfinals.
