Eugenie Bouchard withdrew in #newyork2015 #usopen2015, #injury

Eugenie Bouchard withdrew from her fourth-round women’s singles match Sunday night at the US Open due to what a tournament statement termed a concussion.
The young Canadian had been slated to play Italian Roberta Vinci, who now moves on to the quarter-final.
Following Bouchard’s third-round win Friday, she tripped in the locker room and fell, hitting her head.
“Bouchard’s injury occurred as she was returning to the locker room late after her news conference on Friday following her mixed doubles victory with Nick Kyrgios, according to a source close to Bouchard who didn’t want to be named,” McManus wrote.
“It was late, and the women’s locker room was dark, so Bouchard felt around to find the light. According to the source, there was water on the floor, and Bouchard slipped, falling backward and landing on the back of her head. “She went to the emergency room that night. After she was released, there was concern that playing a tennis match would not help her recovery and that she needed rest, the source said.
” After pulling out of her women’s doubles and mixed doubles matches — following what initially had just been termed a head injury — the 21-year-old standout cancelled a practice session that had been set for Sunday at 3:15pm. Bouchard arrived at Arthur Ashe Stadium at 3:29pm., getting out of her car wearing a purple hoodie pulled over her head and shades to protect her eyes from the sunlight. She looked ill and shaky, walking gingerly and even having to be slightly redirected into the stadium to be evaluated by US Open medical personnel. Roughly an hour later, Bouchard was out of the competition. The US Open’s one-line statement used the term “concussion’’ for the first time, and the tournament has no specific concussion protocol, as the NFL and MLB do. However the decision was made, Bouchard’s tournament is over. “Well, it’s up to her. It’s difficult for anyone to tell you not to play, especially at this stage in the tournament. You want to give it your all,’’ said Venus Williams, who faces sister Serena Williams in the opposing quarter-final. “I don’t know what she’s going through — I have no idea what the circumstances are. But it’s just super unfortunate and just not ideal, and especially [because] she’s playing so well. It’s like the last think you think is going to happen.’’
