RADWANSKA WINS WTA ROGERS CUP TITTLE 2014

RADWANSKA_WILLIAMS 64 62

On Saturday night, third-seed Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland qualified for the final of the Rogers Cup presented by National Bank. She fought hard and triumphed over world no.19 Ekaterina Makarova of Russia in two tight sets (7-6 (1), 7-6 (3)) that went on for just over two hours. There were no breaks in the first set and four in the second. Makarova, who battled for every point, lost two decisive games due to unforced errors at key moments. It was the players’ sixth meeting and Radwanska’s fourth win. The world no.5 got to avenge the last two duels won by Makarova. Radwanska racked up 92 points versus 82 for her rival but prolonged the match unnecessarily by wasting six break points, including five in the first set.

Makarova had a fantastic week in Montréal. Her greatest feat was ousting world no.2 Petra Kvitova. Radwanska will take on Venus Williams in the final on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. The American leads their head-to-head 5-3.
