After storming through the first set in just 28 minutes, the No.9-seeded Ivanovic was forced to rally from behind in the second set as Cirstea built a 4-1 lead - but rally is exactly what she did, winning three love games to get back to 4-all and eventually closing out the hard-hitting Romanian, 6-1, 7-5. Ivanovic's win over Cirstea was her WTA-leading 43rd match win of the year. She's one of three players who have hit 40 this year - Agnieszka Radwanska and Carla Suárez Navarro are tied with 40. Two other seeds won, with No.12 seed Caroline Wozniacki beating Magdalena Rybarikova, 6-2, 6-3, and No.13 seed Flavia Pennetta beating South African qualifier Chanelle Scheepers, 6-3, 6-7(3), 6-2. Since falling first round at the French Open, Wozniacki has rebounded in a big way - she has won 15 of 18 matches since then, a stretch that includes the 22nd WTA title of her career in Istanbul. "I'm in a great place right now," Wozniacki said. "I've been working really hard. And this is the part of the season I really like. I love playing on grass, and I love the US Open Series. It's definitely part of the season I play well in, and winning in Istanbul a few weeks ago was definitely a confidence boost."
