NEWS RANKING WTA BLOG, 8 APRIL 2014

Every week on wtatennis.com we'll bring you 10 of the most important things to know - who's playing, where, ranking movers... this week the Road To Singapore goes through Katowice and Bogotá.

Belinda Bencic is the first 1997-or-later baby to reach the Top 100. After a breakthrough run to her first WTA semifinal in Charleston this past week, the 17-year-old Swiss soared from No.140 to No.91 for her Top 100 debut - no other player born in the year 1997 or later has been to the Top 100 yet. Katowice and Bogotá welcome some very impressive fields this week. Five Top 20 players - including two Top 10 players - are in action at the two International-level tournaments this week. Agnieszka Radwanska headlines in Katowice. The World No.3 is joined in the draw by fellow Top 20 players Roberta Vinci and Carla Suárez Navarro, with Alizé Cornet, Klara Koukalova, Yvonne Meusburger, Magdalena Rybarikova and Tsvetana Pironkova rounding out the Top 8 seeds. Radwanska is playing a WTA event in Poland for the third time in her career.

She has played two WTA main draws on home soil before, both at the former Premier event in Warsaw in 2006 (falling to Elena Dementieva in the quarterfinals) and 2007 (falling to Alona Bondarenko in the second round). Radwanska has won her last 12 matches at International-level events. The World No.3's last loss at an International-level event came in the semifinals of Linz back in 2009 (to Petra Kvitova). Jelena Jankovic headlines in Bogotá. The World No.9 - a former World No.1 - is joined in the draw by fellow Top 20 player Sloane Stephens, with Karin Knapp, Anna Schmiedlova, Caroline Garcia, Vania King, Paula Ormaechea and Lourdes Domínguez Lino rounding out the Top 8 seeds. Bogotá is where Jankovic's resurgence began last year. This event was held in February last year, and it was here where Jankovic won her first WTA title in almost four years, going into the tournament ranked No.24 in the world and, almost exactly a year later just a few weeks ago, getting back to No.6. The No.1 seeds in the doubles draws this week are... Koukalova and Monica Niculescu in Katowice (two-time WTA doubles champions this year) and Vania King and Chanelle Scheepers in Bogotá.
