Medina Garrigues and Shvedova won their third title in Charleston 2014

Anabel Medina Garrigues and Yaroslava Shvedova capped an impressive week of doubles Sunday with a 7-6 (4), 6-2 win over sisters Hao-Ching and Yung-Jan Chan in the Family Circle Cup final. Medina Garrigues/Shvedova won their third title as a pair and second this year after winning in Florianopolis in February. In Charleston, the unseeded duo worked their way through the draw, winning two match tiebreaks as well as beating the No. 3 seeds Raquel Kops-Jones and Abigail Spears in the semifinals.

Medina Garrigues/Shvedova saved a set point at 4-5 in the first set with a long rally, the two teams trading lobs and down-the-line passing shots. They denied the Chans that point, they closed out the set in a breaker. “We feel really good,” Shvedova said after the win. “We teamed up in Australia this year and feel like we have improved at every tournament. We’re improving, so that makes us happy.” Medina Garrigues took a tumble at one point in the match, falling over and getting covered in clay. “It’s a tradition!" Joked Shvedova of her partner's play. "She did the same thing yesterday so she had to do it today, too.” “It never happens to me where I fall over and I hit the ball, but here it did,” Medina Garrigues added. It's a partnership that they said would hopefully continue on in the future. “We are good friends and we accommodate each other well,” Medina Garrigues concluded.
