KRISTINA MLADENOVIC ADVANCES TO ROUND 4 OF THE US OPEN 2015

Kristina Mladenovic has made deep runs in Grand Slam doubles before.
She’s now on to the second week of a Grand Slam singles tournament for the first time in her career.
The 22-year old from France was in command from the start of a straight-sets victory over lucky loser Daria Kasatkina, 6-2, 6-3, to advance to the round of 16.
With the unseeded players squaring off in the Grandstand, Mladenovic took charge early in the first set, going on the offensive with an aggressive forehand attack.
An early break in the second game set the tone for the match as Mladenovic forced the young Russian to defend from the baseline. Mladenovic kept Kasatkina, an 18-year old who got into the draw when Maria Sharapova pulled out, off balance by mixing up her returns with the gentle touch of her drop shots. Kasatkina, who won four ITF Pro Circuit singles titles this season, struggled to match the shot-making ability of the elder player.
Mladenovic’s 24 winners paced the match and her prowess at the net carried the WTA’s No. 7-ranked doubles player to an easy victory in just an hour and four minutes
