Agnieszka radwanska win's over Petra martic into us open 2017

NEW YORK, NY, USA
Agnieszka Radwanska may have fallen out of the Top 10 for the first time since October 2015 on Monday - but today, she preserved her 100% winning record in Flushing Meadows first rounds with a high-quality 6-4, 7-6(3) victory over unseeded Petra Martic.

The World No.85 struck first with a break in the opening game, and found much success in the early stages of the match at net, winning each of her first 10 points in the forecourt and 14 of her 21 approaches in the opening set. But she was neither unable to consolidate her lead, nor take advantage of two further break points in the fifth game

Jelena ostapenko advances to 2 round of the us open 2017

Reigning French Open champion and No. 12 seed Jelena Ostapenko passed a stern test from Spain's Lara Arruabarrena -- and the weather -- to begin her US Open on Tuesday with a 6-2, 1-6, 6-1 victory.

Plagued by two stoppages due to rain, it was a tale of two matches -- and two courts -- for the world No. 12, who became just one of six women to advance to the second round on Tuesday due to the conditions.

"The first set I played really well, and the second set I stepped back a little bit," Ostapenko said after the match. "She played well, then we had to wait not the whole day but couple of hours if we have to play or not. I didn't really know what to do, should I warm up or should I go back to hotel.

Naomi Osaka win's over kerber into 1 round of the us open 2017

Japanese teenager Naomi Osaka eliminated defending champion Angelique Kerber in the first round Tuesday afternoon under a closed roof in Arthur Ashe Stadium, 6-3, 6-1.

Kerber is just the second defending women's champion in tournament history to lose in the first round, joining Svetlana Kuznetsova in 2005.

Karolina Pliskova win's over Magda Linette into 1 round of the us open 2017

Reigning US Open runner-up and current top seed Karolina Pliskova survived her first-round test on Tuesday, powering her way past Magda Linette 6-2, 6-1 to advance to the second round.

As one-sided as the score line may appear, it certainly was not how the match played out. Linette, the world No. 72 from Poland, put the pressure on the top seed for much of the match to keep the scores close and push the majority of the games to within one point. In fact, Linette earned 10 break point chances throughout the match, but could only convert on one. In the end, the world No. 1 had the stronger service game and the power groundstrokes that gave her the upper hand.

Early in the first set, Pliskova took a 4-1 lead that saw her stepping in to fire winners against the Pole. Linette had a window of opportunity with triple break point on Pliskova's serve at 4-2, but the Czech quickly erased those chances to survive the game and follow with a break to take the first set.
