Just 17 years of age, Czech Marketa Vondrousova is already the youngest player in the top 100 and scorched through her first qualifying round on Wednesday in Paris.
If by some chance the name Marketa Vondrousova is not familiar, then do yourself a favour and make a note of it as one to remember. Certainly Argentina’s Nadia Podoroska won’t be forgetting her in a hurry, despite the fact that their first round qualifying encounter on Court 13 lasted a scant 38 minutes.
Vondrousova simply scorched past her opponent, stealing every point but one on Podoroska’s serve in the first set, while reeling off six straight games in each for a 6-0, 6-1 steamroller win.
