Elina Svitolina and Evgeniya Rodina battled entertainingly from the baseline in their second-round contest Thursday, moving each other side to side and producing mostly high-quality tennis for the early match in Arthur Ashe Stadium.
And while Svitolina's sustained dominance didn’t always feel overwhelming, her superior speed and crisper ground strokes — and ability to take advantage of almost every opportunity — made the effort feel routine as she cruised to a 6-4, 6-4 victory.
