Serena Williams has set up a mouth-watering Australian Open 2017 final against sister Venus after ending the magical run of Croatian Mirjana Lucic-Baroni with a 6-2 6-1 win in the semifinals on Thursday afternoon.
It will be the first time that the pair will have met in a Grand Slam final since Wimbledon in 2009, and will be Serena’s eighth final at Melbourne Park, six of them ending in wins.
Victory over Lucic-Baroni was achieved in just 50 minutes, and Williams says she is elated that she was able to win the match in that fashion.
“It felt really good because I felt like it was in my hands to force this Williams final,” she said.
“Believe it or not, I was feeling a little pressure about that, but it felt really good to get that win.”
