Heading into the women’s doubles final with 76 titles and 10 Grand Slams between them, the line-up of Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Lucie Safarova against Andrea Hlavackova and Peng Shuai lacked nothing for experience.
The American-Czech duo of newly-crowned doubles world No.1 Mattek-Sands and her partner Safarova had tasted victory in Melbourne before, winning the 2015 title, and the second seeds did it again this year with an entertaining 6-7(4) 6-3 6-3 victory.
“We were celebrating like five-year-old kids out there,” Mattek-Sands said. “It still feels amazing to win it. It's a Grand Slam. When we got the trophy, we saw our names written on it. We know we get it written on there again. It's just special.”
