ERRANI AND VINCI CONQUERS WOMEN´S DOUBLES IN MUTUA MADRID OPEN 2014

The Italian players won the Mutua Madrid Open trophy after beating the Garbiñe Muguruza - Carla Suárez duo 6-4, 6-3.

Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci are the new Mutua Madrid Open doubles champions after a 6-4, 6-3 win over Garbiñe Muguruza and Carla Suárez, who reached the final having beaten world number 1 doubles team, Shuai Peng and Su-Wei Hsieh.

The duo formed by Muguruza and Suárez, who were playing in their first doubles final, were the surprise package of the tournament after receiving a wild card from the organisation. However, the Italians have a wealth of experience in this kind of game and it helped them come back in both sets to take the title on the Madrid clay. The Spaniards came flying out of the blocks in the first set. At 2-2 they capitalised on a break point to take a two-game lead in the match.
However, Errani and Vinci dug deep to take four games in a row and catch Muguruza and Suárez off-guard to take the first set. At the start of the second set the Spaniards took control once more, taking the first three games from the Italians. But as if it were written in the stars, the 2011 champions reined them in once more taking four games on the trot and the lead in the match. The streak gave the Italians the mental advantage and they made the most of it to conquer their second Mutua Madrid Open title.
