EUGENIE BOUCHARD OUT IN INTERNAZIONALI BNL D'ITALIA. SCHIAVONE WIN.

Eugenie Bouchard told she can reach the very top – despite defeat to Francesca Schiavone

Eugenie Bouchard was knocked out of the first round by Francesca Schiavone in a battle of the master versus the apprentice. At just 20-years-old Bouchard is one of the youngest players on the tour. At the other end of the scale, Italian pro Schiavone is 33 and still going strong and proving it at Foro Italico. The 2010 French Open champion served up a lesson on clay-court superiority by defeating the young challenger 6-4 6-2. And after Schiavone’s victory on Centre court she gave some wise words of advice to her rival. Normally tennis players have a good memory and remember all of their careers with ease.

Do you remember what you were doing when Bouchard was born in February 1994?
Schiavone: No, but I remember when I was her age. She is very strong, very young, with a great view of the future that can take her to the top of the sport. Today was hard, sure I have a bit more experience, I didn’t play my best though.
What is it like playing against someone who is 14 years younger than you?
Schiavone: When you are there you do not think about it. First, instead I studied her earlier play, what she did. It was important for me to reach my goal: to change the game and bring home the match.
What was the last time you had such positive feelings going into a tournament?
Schiavone: For me it is important to play this tournament as if it were the only one in the whole year.
But there are still 15/ 18 more to play, many also very important.
