RADWANSKA WIN OVER SCHIAVONE IN ROME 2014. INTERNAZIONALI BNL D'ITALIA

Having triumphed in the role of counterpuncher against Bouchard and Muguruza, Schiavone looked happy enough to play on the back foot again.
Radwanska, though, rarely comes off second best in a game of tactical cat and mouse, and so it proved out on Pietrangeli, as she withstood some early pressure to run out a 6-4, 6-1 winner. Despite the scoreline, Schiavone had her chances, most notably at the end of the first set, when she broke back for 5-4 only to then falter in the next game.

The Italian has not won a set in her past five meetings with Radwanska, who stretched this run as she cantered over the finish line. Although both players hit 21 winners, the difference, as in so many of the Pole's matches, hinged on the other column; Radwanska hit just 16 unforced errors, while Schiavone committed 29.
