Garbiñe and Sharapova will square off in “The Match 2016” on the grass and clay in the Caja Mágica

Garbiñe Muguruza and Maria Sharapova will star in “The Match 2016: Clay Vs. Grass”, in a tie in which they will have to test their wits on a very unusual tennis court. The exhibition match will take place on December 2 in the Manolo Santana Centre Court, which will be divided into two surfaces: half clay and half grass.
What is “The Match 2016”?
“The Match 2016: Clay Vs. Grass” is a tennis match with an original and exciting format in which the two best players in the world will square off on an innovative tennis court divided into the two most recognisable surfaces in the world of tennis: clay and grass.
Nearly ten years after its first appearance, “The Match 2016: Clay Vs. Grass” will be similar to the first match in the world played on two different surfaces. In 2007 Rafa Nadal and Roger Federer were the first to play this format in the Palma Arena in Mallorca.
Where will “The Match 2016” take place?
“The Match 2016: Clay Vs. Grass” will be played in Madrid, a city of great sporting tradition which has been home to the Mutua Madrid Open, one of the biggest tournaments in the world, for fifteen years. The exhibition will take place on the Manolo Santana Centre Court in the Caja Mágica, which has a capacity of 12,500 and a retractable roof.
