WTA tennis returned to Hong Kong for the first time since 1993 with the inaugural Prudential Hong Kong Tennis Open during the fall 2014 Asian swing.
"HKTA is working proactively to ensure that tennis is again one of the strongest and most popular sports in Hong Kong," said Michael Cheng, Chairman of the Prudential Hong Kong Tennis Open Steering Committee and Honorary Secretary of the Hong Kong Tennis Association. "The hosting of a new WTA tournament and the return of elite professional tennis will have a positive impact at all levels of the sport and in the community. It will serve as an inspiration to young players looking to represent Hong Kong at the elite level."
In addition to making its mark on the city's sporting landscape, the tournament is also a hit with shoppers and fashion aficionados as organizers have capitalized on the city's reputation as one of Asia's leading lifestyle destinations.
"I love Hong Kong," said 2014 champion Sabine Lisicki. "I went up to the peak and was inspired by the magnificent view from there. It is such a beautiful place and I would love to come back."
