Wozniacki, the No.8 seed at the Premier-level event, needed more than two hours to make it past Suárez Navarro, dropping the second set and facing a point for a 5-3 deficit in the third set but clawing back and eventually making it past the Spanish No.1 in a third set tie-break, 6-1, 3-6, 7-6(4).
Suárez Navarro had almost three times as many winners as Wozniacki during the match, 46 to 16, but the usually-rock solid Spaniard also had more than twice as many unforced errors, 51 to 24.
