Ana Ivanovic bounced back from her US Open disappointment with an impressive win over Victoria Azarenka in the second round of the Toray Pan Pacific Open.

And she hit the ground running, building early leads in both sets on her way to a 6-3, 6-4 win over the former World No.1. "It was a very tough second round match. She'd had one match already, so I really tried to take my time and get into the match, working hard for each point," Ivanovic said. "It was a good quality match and I played some good tennis in the important moments
I'm just very happy to be through, because it was a tough draw." Things will not get any easier for Ivanovic, who meets No.7 seed Lucie Safarova in the quarterfinals. Despite sitting higher in the rankings, the Serb has lost her past five meetings with Safarova, the most recent of these coming at this year's French Open. Also advancing on Wednesday was top seed and last year's runner-up Angelique Kerber, after she defeated WTA Rising Star Elina Svitolina, 6-4, 6-4.
"I think I like the courts here, because I always play well here," Kerber said. "They are maybe a little bit different, but the weather also makes a difference."
