NEWS TASHKENT OPEN 2014. DAY 1.


Top seeded Bojana Jovanovski and Wildcard entrant and local Favorite Akgul Amanmuradova went through close opening encounters to make it to the second round of the singles.

 qualifier Lyudmyla Kichenok registered the first upset of the event knocking out eighth seeded Danka Kovinic of Montenegro on Day 1 of the 16th edition of the Tashkent Open WTA championships which began at the Olympic School of Tennis complex here today. The world ranked 35 player Jovanovski found her rhythm late in the second set to set up a 1-6,6-4,6-1 win over former world no 29 Kateryna Bondarenko of Ukraine , while Amanmuradova making a comeback after a yearlong lay off due to injury struggled to overcome Jovana Jaksic of Serbia) 6/4 2/6 6/2 in over 1 hour and 54 minute battle. Qualifier Kichenok toppled the eighth seeded Danka Kovinic 7-6(5),7-6(2) to make it to the second round. Bojana who won her first round after four first round losses on the Tour , started badly winning just 10 points in the first set , but found she seemed to have found her rhythm in the middle of the second set , she broke the hard serving Bondarenko in the 9th game and served out the 10th game at love to win the second set 6-4 and level set score , in the decider Bojana strolled over her opponent with array of winners on both flanks and clinch the issue in 1 hour 22 mins. " I was a bit rusty today , and just couldn't find my shots , but in the middle of the second set I thought that I should go out if I have to stay and changed strategy going for strokes and this paid off " said Bojana after her win . In the next round Bojana will take on former winner here Alla Kudryavtseva of Russia who overcame a fighting qualifier Maryna Zanevska of Ukraine 6/4 2/6 6/3
