Margarita Gasparyan outplayed Anastasia Potapova in an all-Russian contest to claim her second WTA title at the 2018 Tashkent Open.

The resurgent Margarita Gasparyan capped off her comeback week at the Tashkent Open in perfect style, outplaying qualifier Anastasia Potapova 6-1, 6-2 in an all-Russian contest to claim her second career WTA title.

No.52-ranked Babos was ranked 81 spots higher than the unseeded Bondarenko, and hadn’t dropped as set all tournament long on her way to the final. But during Saturday’s final, she couldn’t shake off a sluggish start as Bondarenko charged to a 6-4, 6-4 in an hour and 26 minutes.

The No.3-seeded Knapp didn't drop a set all week and continued that in the final, cruising in the first set then taking a 65-minute second set to topple the top-seeded Jovanovski, 6-2, 7-6(4).

"I was up 4-2 in the second set and I was feeling a little stressed after she got back to 4-all," Knapp said. "But I decided to stay mentally tough and keep going for my strokes, and it worked." Having shown a ton of promise during the 2007 and 2008 seasons, highlighted by her first WTA final at Antwerp in 2008 and setting a career-high of No.35 shortly afterwards, Knapp had some major struggles the following years, first having to get surgery for a longstanding heart condition and taking an extended break from the tour later that year, and then several struggles with her knee. But Knapp came full circle in 2013 - having fallen as low as No.616 a few years before, she returned to the Top 40 at the end of the year, going as high as No.39. And though she hasn't been able to go any higher in 2014 she does now have something she never had before - the first WTA title of her career. "I can't say how happy I am right now," Knapp said. "I've had five surgeries, so many months of lay-offs in the last six years, in and out of tennis the last two years due to bad knee problems - but I knew it was possible for me to win a WTA event one day, and I'm so happy I could do it here in Tashkent.

Top seeded Bojana Jovanovski of Serbia will take on third seeded Karen Knapp of Italy in the finals of the 16th edition of the Tashkent Open WTA tennis Championships being played at the Olympic School Tennis complex here. 

In the semifinals played today world ranked 36 and top seed Jovanovski ended the fairy tale run of local wildcard Nigina Abduraimova 6-4,7-5 in just 1 hours 28 minutes , while third seeded third seed and world ranked 71 Karin Knapp of Italy quelled the challenge of the giant killing qualifier Lesia Tsurenko of Ukraine 6-3,6-3 in 1 hour 40 minutes. 
In a match which witnessed as many as 17 double faults from both players , Jovanovski broke the local Uzbek in the 7th game after bad service game from Nigina and then held on to register a 6-4 win. In the second set which saw as many as 7 breaks on both sides . 
The top seeded seemed more settled as compared to her previous matches pushing Nigina to commit mistakes. Jovanovski broke Nigina in the 11th game and managed to hold on to the 12th game and wrap the match and place in the finals for the second year in a row. 
" I started well today and happy to finish the match in two sets instead of three I have been playing the whole week" said Bojana. It was good to play in front of so many people and would like to compliment Nigina for a wonderful week and game. She has improved a lot and am sure she will be a very good player" , she added.

In the second round matches played today Qualifier Lesia Tsurenko ranked 124 won her fifth match in row packing off second seeded and 61st ranked Irina- Camelia Begu -6,6-1,7-6(3) in 2 hours and 12 minutes , former top 30 player Urszula Radwanska currently ranked 205 ousted 79th ranked Donna Vekic of Croatia 6-3,6-3 in 1 hour 20 mins , while to the 114th ranked Olga Govortsova packed off the 87th ranked and sixth seeded south paw Misaki Doi of Japan 4-6,6-3,6-3 in 2 hours and 5 mins. Top seeded Bojana Jovanovski survived in the clash between former champions winning 7-6(6),3-6,6-3 against Alla Kudryavtseva in a 2 hour31 minute thriller. It was a great day for the large crowds as two local stars Nigina Abduraimova and Akgul Amanmuradova made it to the last eight where they will clash with each other. The tall and lanky Nigina hammered 12 aces on her way to a 2-6,6-3,6-4 win over Alexandra Panova of Russia in 1 hour 56 mins . Another star Akgul Amanmuradova on her comeback trail outplayed qualifier Lyudmyla Kichenok 6-1,6-2 in less than an hour. In the best match of the day Lesia Tsurenko won her fifth match on the trot , coming in as a qualifier the 25 year old from Ukraine went down in the first set being broken in the 8th game losing 3-6 . But the tenacious fighter from Kiev Tsurenko came back to break Begu the former winner here in the 2nd and the 4th games and clinch the set 6-1. In the decider both players broke each other twice.

Last Year's finalist Olga Govortsova of Belarus recorded the only upset of the day registering a 4-6,6-3,6-3 win against a left-handed sixth seeded Misaki Doi of Japan in 2 hous and 5 mins. Doi won a break ridden first set 6-4 , In the second set Govortsova found her form breaking Doi in the 5th and 9th game and leveling set scores. In the third set Govortsova broke in the 4th game and kept up the lead to wrap the match and place in the last eight.

Local girl and wild card entrant Nigina Abduraimova recorded her biggest win of her career ousting fourth seeded Lara Arruabarrena of Spain 7-5,6-4 , Ksenia Pervak of Russia former winner here upset seventh seeded Anna -Lena Friedsam of Germany 7-6(2),6-0 in the opening round of the 16th edition of the Tashkent Open WTA tennis Championships being played at the Olympic School Tennis complex here. 
The tall and lanky 20 year old local star Abduraimova made it to the second round of a WTA tour event after a gap of 5 years stunning the world ranked 75th Arruabareena 7-5,6-4 in 1 hour and 26 minutes while Pervak a winner here , formerly world ranked 37 but now ranked 137 outhit the 85 ranked German seed Anna -Lena Friedsam 7-6(2),6-0 in 1 hour and 34 minutes. In other matches involving former winners here second seeded Irina Camelia Begu of Romania scored a convincing 6-3,6-1 win over Kateryna Kozlova of Ukraine , while world no 2 junior and current Wimbledon junior Champion Jelena Ostapenko justified the organizers faith in awarding a wildcard recording a 6-3,7-5 win over Shahar Peer of Israel. 
Third seeded Karin Knapp of Italy overcame some anxious moments in the second set to register a 6-2,7-6(3) win over Turkish No 1. Cagla Buyukakcay , fifth seeded Donna Vekic of Croatia won 7-5,6-0 against Mandy Minella of Luxembourg, while sixth seeded Misaki Doi put out Katherina Siniakova of the Czech Republic 6-4,6-3. US Open wonder girl Aleksandra Krunic of Serbia who reached her career best ranking of 100 went down to qualifier Lesia Tsurenko of Ukraine 6-2,3-6,6-2 , Tsurenko managed to win in 1 hour and 39 mins in spite of double faulting 10 times in the match

Top seeded Bojana Jovanovski and Wildcard entrant and local Favorite Akgul Amanmuradova went through close opening encounters to make it to the second round of the singles.

 qualifier Lyudmyla Kichenok registered the first upset of the event knocking out eighth seeded Danka Kovinic of Montenegro on Day 1 of the 16th edition of the Tashkent Open WTA championships which began at the Olympic School of Tennis complex here today. The world ranked 35 player Jovanovski found her rhythm late in the second set to set up a 1-6,6-4,6-1 win over former world no 29 Kateryna Bondarenko of Ukraine , while Amanmuradova making a comeback after a yearlong lay off due to injury struggled to overcome Jovana Jaksic of Serbia) 6/4 2/6 6/2 in over 1 hour and 54 minute battle. Qualifier Kichenok toppled the eighth seeded Danka Kovinic 7-6(5),7-6(2) to make it to the second round. Bojana who won her first round after four first round losses on the Tour , started badly winning just 10 points in the first set , but found she seemed to have found her rhythm in the middle of the second set , she broke the hard serving Bondarenko in the 9th game and served out the 10th game at love to win the second set 6-4 and level set score , in the decider Bojana strolled over her opponent with array of winners on both flanks and clinch the issue in 1 hour 22 mins. " I was a bit rusty today , and just couldn't find my shots , but in the middle of the second set I thought that I should go out if I have to stay and changed strategy going for strokes and this paid off " said Bojana after her win . y fuero  tres largas y duras mangas donde la serbia impuso su ley más dura y además fue en la muerte súbita donde consolidó su segundo torneo WTA en su vida profesional. 
Este torneo WTA de Tashkent, en Uzbekistán, se jugó sobre cemento y repartió 235.000 dólares en premios.
En lo deportivo la serbia Jovanovski sufrió un par de rupturas de saque en la 1 manga, pero se recuperó rompiendo el servicio de su rival tres veces en el segundo y fue superior en el game que definió el campeonato. 

 En total, ambas jugadoras terminaron rompiendo cinco veces el servicio cada una en un partido que duró casi tres horas.
 La serbia de 21 años sumó su segundo título WTA ya que también ganó el torneo de Baku en 2012, mientras que Govortsova, 113ª del ranking mundial, buscaba su primer título WTA. 
 Jovanovski, que llegó a la segunda ronda en los cuatro torneos de Grand Slam de este año y fue la única jugadora preclasificada en semifinales, mejorará su 58ª plaza en el ranking mundial de la WTA.
 La jugadora serbia vivió una semana inusual, ya que si bien era la candidata al título tuvo que atravesar la clasificación, por no haberse anotado en el certamen.

La final era una sorpresa y se cumplió el veredicto de la lógica.
Fue la rumana la que pudo ante la joven sorpresa croata, que venía de jugar la previa y con toda la vida deportiva por delante.

Irina inició la ofensiva en la pista, viendose frenada por la croata, especialmente al resto, pero la rumana sirvio algo mejor y supo  rentabilizar los momentos mas críticos del partido.

Mejor % de 1 servicios de la rumana, cercanos al  60%, y tambien mas winners, 27 en mis cuentas, pero algún error mas que su joven adversaria.

1 titulo WTa de Irina en su historia, que creo que jugó dos finales más, una en Marbella, y creo que otra en budapest, pero tendríoa que confirmar amigos..
