Standout matches in the first round of the Mutua Madrid Open include Agnieszka Radwanska – Eugenie Bouchard, Flavia Pennetta - Lucie Safarova, Andrea Petkovic – Sara Errani, Dominika Cibulkova – Samantha Stosur and Silvia Soler – Garbiñe Muguruza after the draw was held in the presence of Simona Halep, Tita Torró and Manolo Santana.
 The participants in the women’s competition at the 2014 Mutua Madrid Open now know the route they will have to take if they are to lift the trophy on the 10th of May Caja Mágica after the draw was held in the presence of Tita Torró and Simona Halep and tournament director Manolo Santana. Halep was responsible for pulling out the token that dictated her place in the draw, and the Romanian player, the fourth seed, will open against a player from the qualifiers, as will the champion of the last two editions of the tournament, Serena Williams. 
Elsewhere, Li Na will play her first match against Kirstern Flipkens, Maria Sharapova plays Klara Koukalova, and Agnieszka Radwanska will have the most difficult opener of the favourites, as she has to take on the young Eugenie Bouchard, a semi-finalist at this year’s Australian Open. The first round will also provide exciting clashes such as the match between Dominika Cibulkova and Samantha Stosur, a duel between Andrea Petkovic and Sara Errani, Daniela Hantuchova takes on Roberta Vinci and Flavia Pennetta faces Lucia Safarova, the defending champion of the doubles tournament.
