Spain and Czech Republic suspended on Sunday because of rain in Seville

SEVILLE, SPAIN
There will be no more play in the Fed Cup by BNP Paribas World Group tie between Spain and Czech Republic on Sunday because of rain in Seville. Instead the second singles rubber of the tie between Maria-Teresa Torro-Flor and Klara Zakopalova will resume at 10am local time (9am GMT). The Czech took the first set on Sunday 63 and already had a break in the second, leading 2-0. The players have met once before and it was the Spaniard who prevailed a close-fought encounter 76(6) 16 63 in Tokyo last year.
Zakopalova is scheduled to take to court for the third singles against Saturday's winner Carla Suarez Navarro but in all likeliood the Czech will be replaced by Lucie Safarova - providing the latter has recovered from illness. Should the tie still be live after the completion of three singles rubbers, Torro-Flor will be back in action against Barbora Zahlavova Strycova in the fourth singles. The doubles is scheduled to be between Lara Arruabarrena and Silvia Soler-Espinosa for Spain and Andrea Hlavackova and Safarova for the Czechs. Spain and Czech Republic are two of the most successful nations in Fed Cup history. The Spanish have won five titles, while the Czechs have triumphed seven times (including five victories as Czechoslovakia).
The Spanish team are looking to extend the 2-1 lead they hold over the Czechs in the three previous meetings between the two nations. Czech Republic won the most recent clash at the same stage of the competition in 2009. Spain earned promotion back to the World Group in 2013 after defeating Japan in the play-offs. Czech Republic, who won the title in 2011-12, failed to complete a hat-trick of wins after losing to Italy in the semifinals last term.
