MONTREAL, CANADA
Aleksandra Wozniak will open proceedings for hosts Canada as they take on Serbia in a World Group II first round tie in Montreal. The Canadian No. 4 has been selected ahead of Sharon Fichman and Gabriela Dabrowski to play behind Eugenie Bouchard and will take on Serbian No. 1 Vesna Dolonc.
The pair met at last year’s US Open in the first round with Wozniak prevailing 75 76(5). Bouchard, who has broken into the Top 20 after her run to the Australian Open semifinals, will follow on court against Jovana Jaksic. Although the pair were born just months apart their careers have not crossed paths at any level prior to this weekend. The reverse singles on Sunday will begin with Wozniak against Dolonc before Bouchard versus Dolonc. The remaining two players on either team have been nominated for the fifth rubber doubles with Fichman and Dabrowski due to play Aleksandra Krunic and last-minute replacement Nina Stojanovic, who came in for Bojana Jovanovski.
