NEWS ROLAND GARROS. DAY 1 JUNE 2015. ORDER OF PLAY

[2] Maria Sharapova (RUS #2) vs. [13] Lucie Safarova (CZE #13)
Head-to-head: Sharapova leads 4-1 Key Stat: Sharapova has gone 66-6 in her last 72 clay matches and owns the highest winning percentage of all active players in Paris. Maria Sharapova has had to battle more than nerves and expectations to find her place in the round of 16 in Paris - she's also dealt with a crippling cold that has made it difficult for her to speak, let alone play. "Yeah. I'm getting there," Sharapova told reporters after her straight sets decision over Sam Stosur in round three on Friday. "I might not sound like it, but I am." Lucie Safarova, who served for the match the last time she met Sharapova in Stuttgart in 2014, has now reached back-to-back fourth rounds in Paris. Sharapova knows that the Czech will be a challenge. "I know I have a tough one ahead of me," she said. "Lefties are always tricky. It will be my first one of the tournament. I will definitely need to be ready."

[1] Serena Williams (USA #1) vs. Sloane Stephens (USA #40)
Head-to-head: Williams leads 4-1 Key Stat: Williams is bidding to become only the fifth woman in the Open Era to win the Australian Open and Roland Garros back-to-back, joining Margaret Court, Steffi Graf, Monica Seles and Jennifer Capriati. Williams became the first woman in Open Era history to claim 50 match wins at each Grand Slam when she rebounded from an early deficit to defeat Victoria Azarenka on Saturday on Court Philippe Chatrier. The 19-time major champion will next face her compatriot Sloane Stephens for the third time in 2015. Stephens snaked a set against Williams at Indian Wells in March, but since then Williams has closed the door, allowing only eight more games in their next four sets. Stephens has been in fine form in reaching the round of 16 at Roland Garros for a fourth consecutive year, but is she in good enough form to notch what would be a colossal upset? She defeated Venus Williams in the opening round, and will try to do something only three players have been able to do - defeat both Williams sisters at a Grand Slam.
