EUGENIE BOUCHARD BLOG. EUGENIE TOP 12.

MONTRÉAL, Canada
After reaching her first Grand Slam semifinal at the Australian Open this year, Eugenie Bouchard became just the third Canadian ever to break the Top 20 on the WTA Rankings and now, after reaching her second Grand Slam semifinal at Roland Garros, she passes one of those other two Canadians, becoming the second-highest-ranked Canadian player in WTA history.

By rising from No.16 to No.12, Bouchard passes former No.13 Helen Kelesi, whose career was highlighted by two WTA titles (1986 Tokyo and 1988 Taranto) and two Grand Slam quarterfinals, both at the French Open, in 1988 and 1989 (falling to Gabriela Sabatini and Mary Joe Fernandez).
Only one Canadian - Carling Bassett-Seguso - has ever made it higher in the rankings, reaching No.8. But Bouchard does hold one thing over Bassett-Seguso already. Before Bouchard, Bassett-Seguso was the only Canadian ever to reach a Grand Slam semifinal, making it that far at the 1984 US Open - but Bouchard has now achieved that feat twice. And having just turned 20, she's got years to go.
