PARIS, France
Tsvetana pironkova produced a spectacular comeback to knock out No.2 seed radwanska and book a place in the quarterfinals of the french open.
When the match was originally stopped on Sunday evening, Radwanska stood in a commanding position, leading 6-2, 3-0. However, an inspired opponent and heavy conditions proved her undoing when they resumed nearly 48 hours later.
Pironkova reeled off 10 straight games to turn the match on its head, and despite a late wobble she completed the turnaround when Radwanska netted a tired forehand. Her 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 victory sees her become the first Bulgarian in a decade to reach the last eight in Paris.
"Yes, it was a set and 0-3, but actually it was a tight match," Pironkova said afterwards. "I had game ball in each of the first few games. Today I tried to leave the fact that it was raining out of my mind and just focus on each and every point. Obviously that worked. If the court is not fit for play, like if it's slippery, they would cancel the match right away. But today the court was okay, we could have played, and so we did."
