The Generali Ladies Linz launched at the 6,000-person capacity TipsArena Linz in 1991. Champions include WTA greats such as two-time winners Lindsay Davenport, Ana Ivanovic and Jana Novotna, along with Justine Henin, Amélie Mauresmo, Mary Pierce, Maria Sharapova, Petra Kvitova and 2012 titlist Victoria Azarenka, the first player to compete in Linz as World No.1.
"I was coming to Linz for the first time and everywhere you go you try to win," Azarenka said after her triumph. "I'm happy to end the week with a beautiful trophy and a smile on my face.
" Home to a vibrant music and arts scene, Linz is the capital of the state of Upper Austria. Situated in the north central part of the country, it is about 19 miles south of the Czech border.
