IVANOVIC_TATISHVILI 62 60
In a battle between women of the same first name (one with an extra ‘n’), No. 13 seed Ana Ivanovic prevailed in a crushing 6-2, 6-0 win over Anna Tatishvili of Georgia.
She may not be as much of a household name as Ivanovic, but Tatishvili is no slouch. Only 23 years old, the Georgian made the fourth round in New York last year in only her second US Open appearance. Needless to say, Ivanovic knew she had quite a test on her hands Tuesday.
The entire first set was characterized by aggressive corner-to-corner baseline rallies, with Ivanovic using her strong baseline game to counter Tatishvili’s laser returns.
But both women struggled on serve, as only two of the eight games in the first set were holds, both belonging to Ivanovic. The 23-minute second set was all Ivanovic, who took commanding control of the rallies and raced to a 5-0 lead while only surrendering three points on her serve.
A double fault from Tatishvili on match point handed the Serbian the match in just under an hour.
Ivanovic and world No. 115 Tatishvili had only met once before, on the grass at Birmingham in 2011, a contest in which Ivanovic ruthlessly dealt the Georgian a similar 6-1, 6-0 loss
VAMOS ANA..
