SIMONA HALEP SEPULTA A MARIA KIRILENKO EN EL US OPEN 2013

The Romanian came into her third-round match with Maria Kirilenko having won 33 of her last 38 matches — a streak that catapulted her into the Top 20 for the first time. On Saturday in Louis Armstrong Stadium, she stayed hot with a dominant 6-1, 6-0 dismissal of the No. 17 Russian. Kirilenko sprinted out to a 40-love start on her serve only to be broken by Halep to start the match. The 21-year-old Romanian reeled off 18 of the next 24 points to grab an early 4-0 edge by a double break. Kirilenko didn’t hold serve until 19 minutes into the match, but she would later double fault the set away in a mere 25 minutes. Halep, a retriever extraordinaire, kept it rolling in the second set, winning eight unanswered points in surging to a 2-0 lead.
She seemed to have an answer for anything that the No. 17 seed threw at her. Down 4-0, the 26-year-old Kirilenko cracked her racquet on the court and received a warning from the chair umpire, but the show of frustration did nothing to turn the tide. Before she knew it, Halep was breaking her for the match, which ended in a mere 50 minutes.
