LEIPZIG, GERMANY
Belinda Bencic and Martina Hingis booked a first Fed Cup by BNP Paribas semifinal for Switzerland in 18 years as the pair won the deciding doubles rubber to give the visitors a 3-2 victory against Germany.
Bencic had earlier put the Swiss 2-1 ahead with an accomplished 76(4) 63 win against Australian Open champion Angelique Kerber, before Fed Cup singles debutant Annika Beck levelled the tie by beating Timea Bacsinszky 75 64.
Bencic then claimed her second victory of the day as the 18-year-old and mentor Hingis, 17 years older, proved a formidable pairing in a 63 62 win in just 71 minutes against Andrea Petkovic and Anna-Lena Groenefeld.
