 Karolina Pliskova rallied from a set down to defeat unseeded American Madison Brengle, 4-6, 6-1, 6-0 in a rain-delayed clash at the Australian Open, reaching the third round in Melbourne for a fifth straight year.

Karolina Pliskova  wrapped up her straight sets win over Madison brengle in just under an hour to move into the third round of the Miami open 2017, 6-1, 6-3.

"I had this last year as well - I did semis last year and then I lost in first round here," she said. "So I just want to change this. I know I struggle after I do a good result in one tournament and then coming to a different tournament after.

"I think I'm in good shape this year, so hopefully I can change it in this tournament, to not lose in the first round."

A good run in the Chinese capital will bring Singapore within touching distance for the leading contenders for the remaining qualification berths, and Bencic took the first step towards that goal with a scrappy 6-7(4), 6-4, 6-3 win over Brengle. 

 Bencic has been one of the form players of the second half of the season, but for her near two and a half hours on court against Brengle she struggled to find her best tennis. In the opening set, she was broken when serving at 5-4 and then 6-5 and struggled to conceal her frustrations during an equally competitive second. 

 The turning point came at 5-4 when the Swiss uncorked a rasping forehand return winner to bring up set point. A few moments later and the contest was heading for a decider, Brengle losing patience first to send a backhand wide following a lengthy exchange. Bencic brought this momentum into the start of the third set, jumping out to a 2-0 lead. While she was unable to hang onto this early advantage, she broke twice more to set up a second round meeting against Mirjana Lucic-Baroni.

Ana Ivanovic continued her impressive progress through the draw at the Dongfeng Motor Wuhan Open with a straight set victory over Madison Brengle. 

Ivanovic, the No.9 seed, went one better against Brengle, completing a 6-0, 6-3 win in just 72 minutes. The confidence oozing through Ivanovic's game was clear for all to see as early as the second game, a beautifully disguised drop shot bringing up the first break points of the match. She called on the same stroke to capture the second break, and with just 28 minutes on the clock the set was hers. 

 Just as impressive as the Serb's shotmaking was her concentration. 
In a 12-minute opening game to the second set, the Serb recovered from 0-40 down to hold serve, and she was forced to dig deep on several other occasions before finally wrapping up victory with an ace out wide.

American Madison Keys makes her first major quarterfinal, ousting compatriot Madison Brengle in straight sets on Monday. 

Move over Nick Kyrgios, there’s another teenager in the Australian Open 2015 quarterfinals. Madison Keys emerged victorious in Monday’s battle of the Madisons, blasting her way past compatriot Madison Brengle 6-2 6-4 at Margaret Court Arena. 
 Perhaps battle isn’t the word. At times the all-American fourth-round showdown was less a title bout at Madison Square Garden than a stroll down Madison Avenue for Keys. 
The 19-year-old twinned her potent firepower with a newfound consistency that she will hopes to carry into her first major quarterfinal against Venus Williams, her opponent in the last eight. “It will be a tough match,” Keys admitted, and a rather different match to her showdown with Brengle. “Venus is a big hitter, has a great serve, and can be very much on the offense.” Brengle hustled and harried Keys as best she could in the second set, but the world No.35 dealt with her nerves to serve out the victory in exactly an hour. Keys – the younger, higher-ranked of the two – was simply too powerful when it mattered for Brengle, also playing her first fourth-round match at a Grand Slam having made her debut at the Australian Open in 2007.
 It has been a month-long tale of grit and guile in Australia for Brengle, the 10th of 13 Americans currently ranked in the WTA top 100 coming into the Australian Open. A qualifier-come-finalist in Hobart in the build-up to Melbourne, her 2015 season is already 17 matches old, a run that will elevate her into the top 50 next week. And to think it might not have happened had she not been given the all-clear after surgery to remove a cancerous lesion by her knee late last year.

As qualifier, Muhammad offered a remarkable performance and forced Rogers to battle hard throughout the three sets. It is only after two hours and 54 minutes that Rogers was confirmed a spot in the quarterfinals thanks to a 6-7(5), 7-6(2), 7-6(5) win.

In the evening session, the match featuring third seed Kristina Mladenovic (no. 73) from France and Kazakhstan’s Sesil Karatantcheva (no. 176) ended with a 5-7, 6-4, 7-5 score in favour of Karatantcheva. In another singles match presented today, Poland’s Paula Kania (no. 159) fell to Czech Repulic’s Andrea Hlavackova in two sets of 6-3 and 6-0. Closing off the evening session, fifth seed Julia Goerges (no. 94) from Germany needed just a little over an hour to dispose of her opponent Melanie Oudin (no. 134) from the United States in two identical sets of 6-2. Four doubles matches were also scheduled today. Third seeds Lucie Hradecka from Czech Republic and Mirjana Lucic-Baroni from Croatia, crushed their opponents Samantha Crawford and Sachia Vickery both from the United States, in two sets of 6-2 and 6-0. The Canadians Sonja Molnar and Charlotte Petrick did not have any more trouble eliminating their rivals, countrymates Ayan Broomfield and Maria Patrascu, 6-2 and 6-1. Qualifier Asia Muhammad was back on court later this afternoon teaming up this time with fellow American Maria Sanchez to face Ajla Tomljanovic, from Croatia and Anna Tatishvili from the United States. The Muhammad-Sanchez duo had the upper hand winning 6-4, 7-5 and 10-3. In the last doubles contest, the team comprised of Czech Republic’s Barbora Krejcikova and Germany’s Tatjana Maria defeated Canada’s Gabriela Dabrowski and Poland’s Paula Kania in two equal sets of 6-4.

Samantha Stosur admitted relief at her first win of the season after an almighty scare from American qualifier Madison Brengle at the Hobart International today. 
 The top-seeded Australian entered the tournament after three straight losses at the Hopman Cup as she shakes up her preparation for the Australian Open. Stosur downed world No.147 Brengle 6-7(4) 6-1 7-6(5) in a rain-interrupted nail-biter at the Domain Tennis Centre. “It’s obviously a big relief to get through that,” Stosur said. “It’s been tough not winning a match at the Hopman Cup so to come here and get through that one, being as hard as what it was, I’m certainly very pleased.” Brengle saved four match points before Stosur punched home a volley to convert her fifth in a third-set tiebreaker. Rain, wind and temperatures that didn’t get much higher than 15 degrees meant the match finished nearly five hours after it started. Stosur struggled to hold serve in a rusty first set before clicking into gear and winning the second in just 19 minutes. She broke in the third to lead 4-3 but failed to serve it out, Brengle saving three of the Australian’s match points before taking it to a tiebreaker. “There’s definitely a few little moments where you think, ‘What am I feeling? How am I going to get through this?’” the 29-year-old said. “I would have liked to have won 6-3 in the third but if it ends up being 7-6 and you go through all that extra kind of emotion and extra few games then I’m happy with that as well.” Stosur will next meet Frenchwoman Kristina Mladenovic, who she beat in straight sets at the French Open last year. The world No.17 says she is building her game as she looks to avoid a repeat of last year’s second round exit at the Australian Open. “I don’t feel like I’m playing my best but I certainly don’t feel like I’m far from getting on that roll,” she said. “I think it’s just a matter of still trying to tighten up those unforced errors.”
