Kristina Mladenovic maintained her imperious form to dismantle Sara Sorribes Tormo and hurtle France towards a one-sided 4-0 victory over Spain with almost indecent haste in their Fed Cup by BNP Paribas World Group play-off in Roanne on Sunday.
Mladenovic was at her world-class best for a second day running to overpower her 20-year-old opponent 61 61 and give France an unassailable lead within an hour of the second day’s play getting under way in the Halle Andre Vacheresse.
In the 'dead' doubles that followed, Alize Cornet and Amandine Hesse then completed the whitewash by beating Olga Saez Larra Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez after a super tie-break 61 36 10-7.
The emphatic triumph, which ensures Yannick Noah’s side will have the chance to shoot for a third Fed Cup title in 2018, was rapturously received by the 5,000 blue-clad fans, many of whom joined the team in an Icelandic-style Viking slow 'thunderclap' celebration after Mladenovic’s win.
