STUTTGART, Germany
Ekaterina Makarova scored just her third win in nine career meetings against Agnieszka Radwanska to defeat the No.7 seeed, 6-2, 6-4 in the first round of the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix.
In the pair's first-ever meeting on clay, Makarova doubled Radwanska's output of winners, 30-15, and logged a postive winner-to-unforced error differential, 30-21.
"It was a very tough match," Makarova said, on-court. "I'm so happy I played good tennis today and came through. I tried to forget [I've] lost [against her] and I tried to remember how I beat her."
