Fed Cup Final 2014: Czech Republic 2; Germany 0.

Czech Republic are in a commanding position to win a third Fed Cup by BNP Paribas title in four years after Petra Kvitova and Lucie Safarova both won in straight sets to put the hosts 2-0 up against Germany at the O2 Arena in Prague.

Kvitova had earlier shrugged off the pressure of expectation to hand the Czechs the ideal start to the Final by overpowering Andrea Petkovic 62 64, and Safarova capped a perfect day in front of a sell-out crowd of 13,000 with a 64 64 victory over German No. 1 Angelique Kerber.
No nation has ever came back from 2-0 down to win a Fed Cup final and Wimbledon champion Kvitova now has the chance to seal victory in the third rubber on Sunday when she is due to take on Kerber.

“I couldn’t have asked for more,” said Czech Republic captain Petr Pala. “Straight sets twice, great performance, I am very happy about the way the girls played. I think they were better on the court and they really went for it.
“We still have one more point to put under our belt and it's always the hardest one. It's never easy to win the last match. Germany are a very strong team, many great players in the team so we have to be ready for tomorrow.”
