Alizé Cornet, mona barthel and Elise Mertens. Hobart 2018

“The Hobart International is the oldest tournament on the WTA calendar that has never had a repeat winner – so it is exciting to have former champions Alize Cornet, Mona Barthel and our most recent winner Elise Mertens returning in 2018. All are popular here in Hobart, so I’m sure they will get plenty of support again as they try to make history.”

Mona barthel conquer's of the J & T Banka Prague Open 2017

PRAGUE, Czech Republic
German qualifier Mona Barthel pulled off a dramatic comeback in the final of the J&T Banka Prague Open to take down local favorite Kristyna Pliskova and claim her first title since 2014.

Despite being down a set and a break against the Czech - who was looking to follow in her sister Kristina’s footsteps with a Prague win – Barthel still found some energy left in the tank to turn it around and win 2-6, 7-5, 6-2.

“I still can’t believe it. It was such a long and tough week, especially today," Barthel said in her on-court interview. "I felt so exhausted and Kristyna played so well in the first set – I actually don’t know how I did it! I was just trying to fight and trying to keep playing and somehow I made it.

Venus williams advances to quarter finals of the Australian open 2017

Forced time away from the game she is born to play only serves to keep Venus Williams hungry.

Hungry to be doing what she loves the most, hungry to carve her path through draws, hungry to feel the buzz of playing before a rousing centre court crowd.

At 36, when the bulk of her fellow Grand Slam-winning rivals have long since hung up the racquets, Williams finds herself in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open for the ninth time after a victory over German qualifier Mona Barthel 6-4 7-5.

It is the first time she has advanced to a Slam quarterfinal without conceding a set since the 2010 US Open.

“She played well today, so many balls came back. I was really challenged to play my best tennis,” Williams said. “So wonderful to get to the quarterfinals against an opponent who was on fire.”

Mona Barthel captured the third WTA title. Collector Swedish Open 2014

The tournament was somewhat of a "last woman standing" kind of thing - seven of the Top 8 seeds were bounced in the first round, and after No.6 seed Annika Beck was upset in the second round, it was the first WTA draw where no seeds made the quarterfinals since Hobart in January 2009.

But it was Barthel who emerged victorious from all of the chaos, surviving a few particularly tough ones en route to the final - three-setters against Canadian qualifier Gabriela Dabrowski in the second round and Spain's Sílvia Soler-Espinosa in the semifinals, coming from 4-2 down in the third in the latter - and against fellow unseeded player Scheepers in the final she put her rally cap on again, coming back from 5-3 down in the second set to close out the South African No.1 in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6(3). Barthel's serve was her go-to in the final - she dropped serve once early in the second set, but overall she held nine of her 10 service games, only being pushed to deuce in three of the other ones. "It's been an amazing week for me. I cannot believe I won the title!" Barthel beamed afterwards.
"It was like a perfect week for me. I was fighting a lot - in some matches I was behind, and I was just fighting for every point. I'm just happy everything worked out. I love this tournament so much. "I can't wait to defend my title."

News Collector Swedish Open. 18 july 2014

Early exits for all eight seeds had left World No.54 Kanepi as the highest-ranked player in the draw, but she was no match for an on-song Barthel, who weathered a late storm to triumph, 6-2, 7-6(4).

After an early exchange of breaks, Barthel reeled off four straight games to run away with the opening set. The second set was a far closer affair, going with serve until the ninth game when Kanepi found the line with a forehand return to break. Eager not to be outdone in the shotmaking department, Barthel hit straight back with a precise backhand pass. In the subsequent tie-break, it was the backhand that once again proved the difference, a crosscourt pass taking the German to two match points.
She only needed the one, another crisp backhand booking a last four meeting with Sílvia Soler-Espinosa. "That was a really tough match, especially in the second set," Barthel said. "It was really close and she served for the set. "I'm pretty happy I stayed tough in these moments, believed in myself and just kept going for my shots. I played a really good tie-break in the end and I think this made the difference." Soler-Espinosa was equally impressive against Alexandra Panova, needing little over an hour to complete a 6-3, 6-2 win.
"Of course it was a tough match, because everyone who is in the quarterfinals is playing well," Soler-Espinosa said. "I knew she was going to be quite solid from the baseline, so I just tried to play my game, be aggressive and use my forehand to move her when I had the opportunities. I'm so happy to be in the semifinals here in Bastad!" In the other semifinal, Chanelle Scheepers will take on Jana Cepelova.

PETRA KVITOVA IN 3 ROUND OF THE CHAMPIOSHIPS WIMBLEDON 2014

Petra Kvitova matched the feat as she dispatched Mona Barthel 6-2, 6-0.
Kvitova, who overpowered fellow Czech Andrea Hlavackova 6-3, 6-0 in the first round, once again defied her reputation for slipping into three-set tussles.

Barthel had raced to a 7-5, 6-0 win against Romina Oprandi in her opening match and was expected to provide a little more resistance, having taken to Kvitova in three sets back in 2012. In the end, the result was nothing short of emphatic – the German lost 11 games in succession to bow out in just 54 minutes. Kvitova, her right thigh still strapped to protect a hamstring strain, made a cautious but steady start against Barthel. The German’s brief was clear: keep the No.6 seed moving, but Kvitova brought up a break point in the first game while still finding her range. Barthel recovered to hold and might have capitalised on a 0-30 lead in the second game, but Kvitova found her way back with a couple of timely aces. From that point onwards Kvitova assumed complete control. Moving with greater freedom, she was free to let rip from the baseline and bully Barthel into submission. The 23-year-old held once more but a cross-court backhand return blazed past to bring Kvitova a second break point in game five, sealed with a Barthel double-fault. As the German crumbled, Kvitova grew in confidence. There were shades of her 2011 form as she struck 25 winners in all and showed the fine touch around the net. The opening set disappeared in 25 minutes, and after falling to a third break at the start of the second, Barthel disappeared beneath her dipped visor. With the match all but over at 6-2, 5-0, the German rallied to finish on a high note. Having cruised through the match without facing a break point, Kvitova was suddenly 0-40 down. Undeterred, the world No.6 served her way out of trouble before Barthel came again, saving four match points and bringing up another two chances to break with some of her best tennis of the match.

ANA IVANOVIC INTO 3 ROUND OF RHE AEGON CLASSIC 2014

Ana overcame a slow start, a few raindrops and a dangerous opponent as she moved into the third round of the AEGON Classic in Birmingham.

The top seed triumphed 6-4, 6-1 in an hour and six minutes. Playing her first grass court match in almost a year, Ana started sluggishly. Barthel looked strident and she broke in the opening game of the match. She even had a break point to lead 3-0, before Ana began to find her rhythm on the pacy green surface. Two holds from Ana allowed her to settle, and she called coach Nemanja Kontic onto court while trailing 3-2. His words had the desired effect because she broke back soon after, and began to hit with more purpose and aggression. The turnaround was complete when Ana broke the German - against whom she had a 1-2 head-to-head record coming into the match - in the 10th game to take the opening set. By now Ana was in control of the match and she further asserted her superiority by surging into a 3-0 lead, courtesy of a few wicked cross court winners off both the forehand and backhand wings. The sixth game, at which point Ana led 4-1, proved to be the longest of the match as Ana missed several break point opportunities before eventually adding a second break. She served out confidently to confirm her place in the third round. Within an hour of the match ending, the rain began to fall heavily. Ana awaits the winner of the Victoria Duval-Lauren Davis all-American clash in round three.

MONA BARTHEL SE RESISTE A LOS ENCANTOS DE ANA IVANOVIC EN INDIAN WELLS 2013

IVANOVIC_BARTHEL 16 63 06

BARTHEL_ERRANI 75 76
ACTUALIZANDO..

28 errores de Barthel por los 32 de Vinci.

ZVONAREVA DISPONDRÁ DE UNA OPORTUNIDAD EN EL JARDÍN DE LOS SUEÑOS 2012

 Vera Zvonareva _ Mona Barthel  26 76(3)

Caroline Wozniacki_Mona Barthel 64 76(2)

Vamos Ana!!

ANA IVANOVIC VS MONA BARTHEL IN STUTTGART 2012

VAMOS ANA!!
ERES GRANDE!!
MÁS CERCA DEL TOP TEN!!

BARTHEL SE IMPONE A JANCOVIC EN MIAMI 2012

BARTHEL CELEBRA SU VICTORIA ANTE JANCOVIC EN MIAMI 2012..
Mona Barthel_Jelena Jankovic 60 63
