Mattek sands and lucie safarova conquer's of the women's doubles tittle in new York 2016

Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Lucie Safarova completed an improbable comeback in the women's doubles final on Sunday in Arthur Ashe Stadium. Top seeds Caroline Garcia and Kristina Mladenovic served for the championship in the second set, but Mattek-Sands and Safarova rallied to take the title, 2-6, 7-6, 6-4.

Mattek-Sands was the weak link in the opening set, dropping her serve twice to comfortably give Garcia and Mladenovic the first set. Both teams traded service holds in the second set until 4-4, when Garcia crunched a forehand return winner to give her team the chance to serve out the match. But the occasion proved to be too much for Garcia, and she was broken at love. The French pair struggled to control their ground strokes in the tiebreak, spraying several backhand errors to give Mattek-Sands and Safarova a 6-3 lead. The lower-ranked pair converted on their third set opportunity to level the match at one set each.

Garcia and Mladenovic left the court to regroup after the second set, but it didn't allow them to stop the momentum of their opponents, and Garcia dropped her serve to open the third set. Mattek-Sands and Safarova held the slight advantage throughout the rest of the match, converting on their second match point with a backhand error from Garcia to wrap up the contest.
