NEW HAVEN, CT, USA
Radwanska survived a late challenge from No.10 seed Elina Svitolina on route to claiming her first title in new Haven, 6-1, 7-6(2).
The World No.4 Radwanska took a wildcard into the New Haven event looking for some last-minute tune up ahead of the US Open. She'll now leave the tournament having claimed the 19th WTA title of her career, and her second title of the 2016 after opening the season with a win at Shenzhen.
"Thank you so much to the tournament director Anne [Worcester], for giving me that wildcard," Radwanska laughed in her winner's speech. "I definitely appreciate it, and I'll be back next year for sure."
After cruising through a 29-minute first set, Radwanska looked set for a quick day at the office in New Haven. Svitolina won just four points on her serve all set long and didn't bring up a single break point. But the Ukrainian hit the reset button in the second set, raising her intensity and making it a much more even encounter against the top seed.
